C’lonMaed is the primary brand owned and operated by D T P Ceylon Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. Primarily a production-based operation, C’lonMaed specializes in the very unique production and future export of Kithul based products. Kithul or Caryota urens L. (Family Arecaceae) is one of Sri Lanka’s most beneficial palm trees. Kithul Jaggery and Treacle are the best known products derived from the sap of the Kithul flower. Locally known as the jaggery palm, is abundant all over Sri Lanka and has been in the country since ancient times. Historians mention its many uses as far back as the 19th Century, back when Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon. Prized for its strong timber and thalapa, the traditional industry can be traced back almost 2000 years according to ancient literature and Kithul products were prime commodities used in the barter system for other foods such as paddy, pulses, vegetables, and meat, as Kithul treacle and jaggery were two of the most popular sweeteners of ancient Ceylon. The traditional knowledge of tapping and harvesting has been a practice passed down from generation to generation. The traditional techniques used have not been observed in any other country in the region, although this palm is available in Asian tropics. Therefore, it is the utilization of this unique knowledge and equally unique product that is the primary focus of C’lonMaed.
