My story begins in Negombo, when I started noticing the number of waste that is generated by hotels and guest houses in the area that goes in to the garbage on a daily basis. Being involved in Tourism, I frequently visit hotels in the Negombo area, and one day something told me that I should help the environment in any small way that I could by doing something about it. Finally a thought stuck, that by converting bottles in to a house hold ornament or a work of art, that they could be kept indoors and admired by all, rather than being disposed in such haphazard methods. As I had already had some experience on this, as I have done a few of them before which I kept at home, I did not hesitate for a moment to start it on a commercial scale and bring in to the market, under the name “Anagi.” The designing is done by using echo friendly material such as paddy, rice. Jute, clay, coconut shells, putty, paper, colored stones, beads, decoupage paper, string, egg shells, coir rope, eakles , seeds and macrame. Our main objective is to produce an environmentally friendly product which is sold as home decor and souvenirs. Being a survivor of a cancer, I have intentions of helping the needy at Apeksha hospital in Maharagama with the income I generate in future. Since then I have been collecting bottles of all sizes and shapes, which I never thought that could be turned into such beautiful work of art…
