About Us
Wax Craqqs is a batik clothing brand, born in the tropical island of Sri Lanka inspired by the traditional Batik craft practiced in the island of Sri Lanka. The brand focuses on lingerie, swimwear, resort wear and occasion-wear and are designed and manufactured in Sri Lanka. Each pattern is unique to the other and comes with a distinctive surface design in handmade batik. Wax Craqqs was founded in 2015 with batik lingerie made from comfortable cottons, infused with colourful accessories and interesting cuts. Wax Craqqs then expanded to swimwear and resort wear, creating one of a kind exquisite articles of clothing. Thenceforth, Wax Craqqs increased the product range as well as the clientele and is currently designing for men and women. Wax Craqqs’ main focus is to work with the traditional batik craft and infuse it with modern designs that are timeless pieces. Batik is a traditional wax resistant fabric dyeing technique that has been in Sri Lanka for decades, handed down from one generation to the other. It is a time consuming handmade craft that creates a unique design on the fabric as the wax breaks and the dye seeps in, creating what is called the crackles or the cracks. Furthermore, batik is unpredictable, which is one of multiple aspects that makes it unique and sustainable. Wax Craqqs focuses on creating unique items of clothing and accessories while focusing on sustainability. Part of the process is doing small capsule collections and made-to-order garments to avoid mass production. The team works closely with the batik crafts people to develop new ways to use the craft and uplift the lives of the artisans involved within the craft. Ethical manufacturing practices are in place to make sure each worker gets the same love and care the products are given. To that end, the brand concentrates on using fabrics that are only made with natural fibres such as silks, cottons and linens, allowing the brand to take steps to become eco-friendly.
